Digital controlled power supply.
Objective:
Design of a precision digital controlled power supply
I have been looking for a small power supply controlled by Arduino for some time. Earlier this your I came across a design by ThomasVDD.
Reference:
This design by ThomasVDD is very close to what I have looking, however I have changed several things in the design.
- All parts are "hole true" type
- ESP32 is the controlling processor - this means the whole design is changed to 3V3
- INA219 breakout modules are used for measuring current and voltage for battery and PSU
- The battery: Li-Ion 7V4 / 6800mAh - F960 much improved battery capacity
- The display - very detailed information per module - and with analog current meter
- The software is completely re-written.
The specifications for my version:
- Voltage: 0 -> 15V
- Current: 1A
- Voltage setting: 100mV / step ( 0V -> 15V)
- Current setting: 10mA / step (100mA -> 1000mA)
The build
Digital controlled PSU
The details of the Display
The modules
The PSU module PWM controlled by ESP 32 PWM control of voltage settings and current limit settings
The booster module The tracking voltage is set by ESP32 (ISP bus)
Feature details
Digital PWM control of voltage setting
and current limit setting.
Constant voltage mode or constant
current mode.
Funktion for Eeprom storing of settings.
Function for pre selecting of
4 voltages and 3 current settings.
Battery power source for low noise
design.
Heatsink temperature control for PSU
and booster modules.
Design with pre-regulated / tracking
booster voltage for reduced power
dissipation in the PSU module.
Chassis connector for external ground connection.
Flouting ground or negative/positive line
connected ground / case.
ESP32 easy software update with
OTA (Over The Air) function.
Display
2" full color - resolution 320x240
Display with digital and analog readout.
OTA (Over The Air) firmware updating implementer
ESP 32 - library allow for a very easy firmware updating. the library: EasyOTA
The OTA function is active when the pushbutton is pressed during booting. This is the display of the OTA screen.
The ESP32 will connect to wifi and wait for the firmware transfer.
Your rooter will give the ESP32 a random IP address and the display will show this address.
The display also show the actual firmware version and the date of the uploading. These information is automatically updated when you compile you firmware.

If you find the design interesting, please leave a note or send a message. I will be happy to share the firmware, circuit diagrams and PCB layout.
